Movie Review: Catching Fire

Movie Review:
Hunger Games:
Catching Fire

Rated PG13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some frightening images, thematic elements, a suggestive situation, and language.

Staring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Sam Claffin, Elizabeth Banks....
(spoilers)
About:
Katniss and Peeta have survived the games, trying to forget the past. But when the districts start to rebel because of Katniss's actions in the Arena, President Snow threatens to kill both of their families unless Katniss brings up her game.
But when President Snow isn't satisfied with Katniss's actions, he puts a twist on the next Games (the quarter quell) that shock Katniss, and every one in Panem.

My Thoughts:
First, let me just let you guys know that I went on the 22nd, and I still had to wait a hour and a half before the movie started ( a hour standing, a half hour sitting in the seats). But thankfully I got the best seats (I went with Ruby Plank). So obviously I was excited for this movie, because I knew, just by the trailers, it was going to be amazing.
I was not disappointed.
Even though I knew what was going to happen (I had read the book) I was still at the edge of my seat the WHOLE movies, WHILE keeping 99% true to the book (which is REALLY good).
It was actually one of the only movies that I have EVER liked more than the book (book is amazing, but seeing it on big screen was awesome).

Language:
The only scene that had intense language is during one of the interviews, and it is implying that she is cursing, but it bleeps it out (which I was thankful for).

Violence:
I wouldn't say that the violence is worse, but there is no shaky screen so more is shown blood wise. But even saying that, the violence is not over the top. (And it's not just teens in the arena).

Other:
There is a sensual part in the movie, doesn't show anything, but it is implied. Kissing in the movie.

I would love to hear what you thought of this movie (if you saw it) and if you agree with my Review.

Movie Review: The Hunger Games

Movie Review:
The Hunger Games
Rated PG13 for intense violent thematic material and disturbing images -all involving teens.
Directed by: Gary Ross.
Staring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson..

About:
In futuristic North America, because of their rebellion against the capital, 24 teens ages 12-18 years old are selected to fight to the death on live television, for the enjoyment of the capital.
Katniss Everdeen doesn't fear for her sisters first reaping, so when her sister is picked, she becomes the first volunteer in her district to save her sisters life for another year. What happens will change her life forever, and will change the history of the Games.

My thoughts:
I personally love this movie, and the story behind it. It really opens your eyes to what could really happen to our society in the future, if we let them control us.
The only thing I would complain about is that they only made it about 70% true to the book. They took out some parts that I would have liked to see in the book, some very important parts.
But other than that, is has an intriguing story, great actors, and makes you tear out your hair for the next movie.

Violence:
This movie is about teens fighting to the death for the enjoyment of those of higher caste. There are multiple teen deaths throughout the movie, but most of them are blocked out by a shaky screen, so you do not see much. A boy gets his leg cut with a sword, and Katniss takes care of him. Katniss gets her forehead cut, and other  minor injuries. Blood is briefly shown throughout the film.

Language:
I can only remember two curse words, and some minor crude words.

Other:
Two teens kiss. Katniss's mentor is shown drunk and with bottles in his hand in some scenes.

Hope you enjoyed this review of "The Hunger Games"!

Myra

The Merchants Daugter

The Merchants Daughter
Book Review
Title: The Merchants Daughter
Author: Melanie Dickerson
Pages: 288
Type: Romance/Suspense/Action/Historical Fiction.
About:
Once a wealthy merchants daughter, Annabel, is now a servant for Lord Ranulf, rumored to be both Terrifying and Beastly.
And worse yet, his bailiff, a revolting man who has made unwelcome advances to Annabel in the past, is still watching her, and still trying to get her to marry him.
But yet, as much as she wants to leave, she feels as though safe in the hand of her Lord.
But when she is thrown into the middle of an investigation she has to either put her close friend into danger, or do the same for her Lord.

My thoughts:
Well first of all, I am not really good at writing book reviews and stuff so sorry if the description made you want to not read the book. It is a wonderful book, made by a wonderful Christian author.
I personally love this book so much. It has just the right amount of Romance, action, and suspense.
I just finished reading this book for the second time and it made me rush to the library and get all her books!

Man has a scarred face, people try to kill the man claiming he is a monster.

Other:
A man makes unwelcoming advances on Annabel, but she escapes before anything can happen. When she becomes a servant to Lord Ranulf, his bailiff also tries to make advances on Annabel.

I really enjoy this book, I just love the setting and the balance of romance, and action.

The girl with Hiv. And the boy who couldn't move.

So one of the things we would do is half of our team would help do physical work like paint, and help build stuff. And the other half would go do house visits for people with Hiv/Aids, people who were dying, disabled people, etc.
This was really hard for me, especially because I hate to see poverty and suffering.
There were two people that we prayed for that got to me.
The Girl with HIv, and the boy who couldn't move.

The Girl with Hiv:
We had to go down a really steep makeshift driveway to the first patient we were praying for. All we knew was that it was a girl with Hiv. When I stepped out of the van and saw who she was, well how young she was. I was shocked. She was only about 16-18 years old and lived in a hut with the rest of her family. I kept myself from tears while we were praying and afterwards she was near tears, and my grandpa went up and hugged her (my grandpa came with me to South Africa).
I remember she had an yellow shirt, a striped hat, and a pretty shirt made out of a scarf of something.
I knew she was going to die an young age, anywhere from 1-10 years. I hurt for the years she would miss, the dreams she wouldn't be able to fulfill.
When  my grandpa hugged her, she was shocked. Shocked that this man cared about her so much as to give her a hug.  (hugs aren't used a lot in South Africa, but are loved).

I pray for her a lot, that she will be able to fight her Hiv and live to fulfill her dreams one day.

The boy who couldn't move.
While we were driving all we knew was that the next person we were seeing was a little boy.
When we got there I saw a little boy in a wheelchair on the porch.
But once I got closer, I had to keep from sobbing.
He was about 8-10 years old.
He was in a makeshift wheelchair (a baby stroller) that was way to small for him.
He was strapped in with like a bungee cord so he wouldn't fall out.
He was in the blazing outdoors.
He was falling out of his makeshift wheelchair.
He had flies going into his mouth and into his nose, but he couldn't shoo them away.
He couldn't talk or move.
When he saw us his eyes filled with joy and he let out happy screeches.
I was holding in tears.
The first thing we did was help him back into his makeshift wheelchair.
He had the most beautiful smile in the world.
He acted like us being there with him for just a couple minutes was the best thing that has ever happened to him.
During the time we were praying for him I was sobbing, because even though he was in this situation, he was smiling and being more grateful for his life than I ever was of mine.
This special little boy is embedded in my heart.
And because of that I have contacted Horizon International (the group I went with) to see if I can send him personalized wheel chair for him.
I don't know your name, but I want you to know that I love you and will always be praying for you. I will do everything I can to send you that wheelchair, and stuff to make your precious life better. I love you and you will always have a special place in my heart. I will try to visit you next time I come to South Africa. I love you bud.

Helping him into his wheelchair. Isn't his smile the most beautiful one you have seen?! ^

His beautiful smile. ^

I caught him in the middle of an sneeze in this photo. But he is still so precious.

Thanks for reading,
I will be posting more stories soon.

My life changing trip.

I haven't posted about my trip to South Africa yet, so I will today.

I witnessed/did some crazy things. Like a poor high school girl filled with the rage of demons, and did some crazy stuff like pet a cheetah.
Photo: Myra and the Cheetah

But I know that God let me witness/do that stuff for a reason.
God made me see that poor girl suffering from the wrath of demons to show me how much sin can change your life.
And God gave me the strength to pet that cheetah with no leash or nothing to keep it from attacking me to help me with my High anxieties. And it was the coolies thing ever!

Going to South Africa helped my depression and anxiety lessen.
For example I got over my fear of germs.
And my fear of getting dirty.
It helped me realize what I have compared to those kids in South Africa.
I am more thankful.
I am not afraid of flying anymore, I actually enjoy it.

God works miracles. And I got to witness that during the experience of missions. Like raising all my money ($3200) in only two months!

I cried, everyone on my team cried. Because going to Africa, and seeing all the poverty, is heart breaking.

They're meal at a drop of center run by Horizon International. This is pop and beans in water. This is sometimes the only meal they will have all day.Pop is technically wheat and water.

The kids LOVE bubbles!

I am so Thankful that the Lord gave me this experience. I am planning my second trip to either South Africa again or India.

I'll post some more stories from my Trip to South Africa.

Please do  not copy these and claim them as your own, I took all of these and would not appreciate if you stole them without talking to me first. Thanks

To Love another person is to see the face of God! -Les Miserables
